Fred C. Karns was born Nov. 17, 1889, the son of John and Julia Karns on a farm in Cedar county, Iowa. He passed away Oct. 12, 1955, quite suddenly at the home of his brother, Louis, in Davenport, having reached the age of 65 years, 10 months and 25 days.

He attended the Lime City school while a boy, and later moved to Tipton with his parents.

He was united in marriage to Stella McCracken in Tipton in 1915, and soon moved to Custer county, Montana, and homesteaded some land for about three years and then returned to Tipton where he made his home until 1942, at which time he moved to Davenport. Mrs. Karns preceded him in death in 1952.

Two children were born to this union, Herbert Karns, who passed away in infancy, and Raymond Karns, who survives his father.

Mr. Karns was employed by the Eagle Signal Co. of Davenport, until his retirement just two months ago.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one son Herbert, one brother George, and two sisters, Mrs. Mae Osborn and Mrs. Eva Fleming.

He is survived by his son, Raymond of Davenport, two brothers, Louis Karns and Roy Karns, of Davenport, three sisters, Mrs. Genevieve Murray of Davenport, Mrs. Fern Lincoln of Moscow, and Mrs. Edith Walter of Tipton, and one granddaughter, Janice Rae Karns, also several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.

Funeral services were conducted Friday, Oct. 14, 1955, in the Sheets & Dahn funeral home in Tipton with Rev. A. C. Long officiating and interment in Tipton Masonic cemetery.
