22 September 1955 - The Tipton Advertiser

Howard Elmer Wood, 67, was killed Sunday in a tractor accident on a country road 2 1/2 miles south of Mechanicsville.

The tractor, pulling a wagon, ran off the road. Mr. Wood was thrown to the ground. He suffered a fatal head injury.

Mr. Wood was born Aug. 26, 1888, at Lisbon. He is survived by his wife; two sons, Loyd and Laverne, both of Tipton, and a daughter, Mrs. Melvin Pauls of Mechanicsville.

Services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Sheets & Dahn funeral home. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery at Mechanicville.

Howard E. Woode was born in Lisbon, Iowa, on Aug. 26, 1888, the son of Charley and Annabelle Wood. He passed away Sunday, Sept. 18, at the age of 67 years, 23 days.

He attended school in Linn county, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Hazel McBowen on Dec. 23, 1908, in Marion, Iowa. They lived their entire married life in the same community southwest of Mechanicsville.

He is survived by his wife Hazel, two sons, Lloyd and LaVerne, of Tipton, one daughter, Mrs. Melvin Pauls, of Mechanicsville, 7 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Jenny Lannon and Jessie Taylor, two brothers, Vernice and Harmon, preceded him in death. He also leaves three half sisters, cousins, nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held at the Sheets & Dahn funeral home at 2 p.m. on Sept. 20. Burial was made in Rose Hill cemetery, Mechanicsville.

Pallbearers were Opie Parks, Forest Moffit, Art Woolison, Clifford Tisinger, Ben Schroeder and Harry Park.
