Julius Madsen passed away at the hospital at Iowa City early Sunday evening, following a short illness of flu and pneumonia.

Mr. Madsen was taken to the hospital Friday evening and every effort was made to combat the disease, but to no avail.

Funeral services were held from the Danish Lutheran church Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with burial in the West Branch cemetery.

Mr. Madsen was one of our prominent farmers, living one and one-half miles east of town, and he will be mourned by a large circle of friends.

He is survived by his wife and three children, Mrs. G. L. Barclay of Dubuque, Mrs. Louis Hansen and Arthur Madsen of West Branch, and by two grandchildren.

Julius Madsen was born in Jerslev, Denmark, Dec. 2, 1867. When twenty years old he came to America. On January 8, 1895, he was united in marriage to Katrina Anderson. To this union four children were born, one of whom, a son, Leroy, died in infancy. His widow, with their three children, Mrs. Louis Hansen of Centerdale, Mrs. George Barclay of Dubuque and Arthur of West Branch, survive; also his brother Niel and three sisters, Mrs. Carl Jensen, Mrs. Hans Johnson and Mrs. Helena Anderson. One brother, Soren, lives in Nebraska, and a brother and sister have preceded him in death; two grandsons. He passed away at Mercy hospital, Iowa City, on the evening of Dec. 30, 1928, following an attack of pneumonia.

Most of his married life was spent on the farm east of West Branch. His deeds of kindness and wise counsel he gave helped many of his friends in their time of need. And those who knew him best realize that in his quiet way he was a follower of Christ, his Master. While we deeply feel our loss, as we realize that he will be with us no more, yet the remembrance of his loving interest remains to us as a precious legacy.

Short funeral services were held at the home Wednesday afternoon, with music by Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Walker of Keokuk. Services were held at the Lutheran church at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Christensen and Rev. Green. Burial was made in the West Branch cemetery.
