31 March 1887 - The Local Record

DIED--At his residence in West Branch Monday evening March 28, 1887, DAVID E. Mackey, aged 53 years 3 months and 8 days.

Deceased was born in Cecil county Maryland, where he lived until the year 1866, when in company with his brother he spent a year in Montana. Returning to his native state he remained but a short time. Coming to West Branch in 1869 he soon after married Mary H Yetter, who died three years later, leaving an only child, who now survives his father. Mr. Mackey was a man of unusual ability, and as a member of the M.E. Church was at one time a zealous worker in the church, Sunday School, and in the Young Peoples Christian Association. Although adhering to the political party greatly in the minority in the town he has held many positions of trust and honor in the gift of the people. He was elected Mayor in 1879, serving two successive terms, and was Justice of the Peace and member of the town council whenever he could be induced to serve in those positions. In Dec. 1885 he was appointed Post Master at West Branch a few weeks after he was stricken with paralysis from which time he has been an invalid and for the last three months entirely helpless.

Funeral was held in the Presbyterian church yesterday at 1 p.m. the sermon preached by Rev R Wolfe, but the ministers of the other churches were present and participated in the services.

The large attendance was evidence of the interest and respect held by the community for deceased, and sympathy for the orphan son and bereaved sister.
