24 February 1887 - The Local Record

Died. Monday, Oct. 11, 1887 of congestion of the brain Chester Hammell Lindsley, aged 7 months and 6 days, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Lindsley of West Branch Iowa.

The circumstance of this death is peculiarly sad. The family left home on Saturday morning for a months visit with friends and relatives in different parts of this state and Illinois first going to Iowa City, while there at Mr. Lindsley's brothers on Saturday evening the child was taken sick and although the best medical aid in the city was in attendance he never rallied but grew worse until Monday at 2 P.M. when death came to the relief of the little sufferer. Funeral services were held in the Presbyterian church at 2 P.M. on Wednesday by Rev Brown of Tipton and the ministers of this place while the deep sympathy felt by the community for the family in their sorrow was made manifest by the large attendance on the occasion. A lesson that teaches us all how frail and uncertain are all our plans when we anticipate pleasure and enjoyment how easily it may be turned to mourning and sorrow.
