26 March 1908 - West Branch Times

C. E. Smith received a telegram Monday morning announcing the very sudden death of William G. Mingus at his home at Pasadena, California, which occurred at 9 o'clock a.m. March 22.

Mr. Mingus had been a resident of Pasadena for the past few years but he and his wife spent their summers in Iowa. He had not been in rugged health for a number of years, but as far as known here, had been in usual health. His sudden taking off is a great shock to his many friends here and undoubtedly is to his invalid wife, and his daughter, who mourn their loss. The funeral was held on Wednesday from his home.

The following clipping from Pasadena Daily News of Mar. 25, gives a short account of the illness and death of our former townsman, W. G. Mingus, whose death cast gloom over his many friends in this community.

"Wm. G. Mingus whose funeral was held this afternoon at chapel of Reynolds & Van Nuys, was born in Columbus, Ohio, October 29, 1836, and when still a child moved to Wellsburg, West Virginia. In 1854 he came west to Cedar county, Iowa, where he has resided continuously until about three years ago, when he and his wife came to Pasadena, with their married daughter and family, Mrs. E. A. Smith. In 1860 Mr. Mingus was united in marriage to Miss Ruth Keisler, who with their two children, Dr. F. M. Mingus of Anadarko, Okolahoma, and Mrs. Mae Smith survive him.

Mr. Mingus has been a very prosperous business man in the community where most of his life was spent. His death comes as a particularly severe shock following so closely the recent serious illness of his wife for whom much anxiety has been felt."
