27 March 1919 - West Branch Times

W. E. Nicks was born in Booneville, Cooper county, Missouri, on Feb. 14, 1881, and died at his home in Springdale, Iowa, Monday, March 24, at 9:15 a.m., aged 38 years, 1 month and 10 days.

Mr. Nicks spent his early days in Cooper county, Mo. In 1902 he went to California where he lived for two years. He then went to Kansas City and remained a year.

On Sept. 29th, 1903, he married Miss Grace Lehman of Preston, Mo. To this union was born five children, all of whom live to mourn their father's death. They were Mildred, Walter, Elsie, Fay and Wava.

Soon after his marriage Mr. and Mrs. Nicks spent three years in Kansas City and then moved to Minnesota for the benefit of his health. On March 11, 1917, they moved into Springdale where they won their way into the hearts of the people.

Mr. Nicks was one of a family of nine--G. W. Nicks, Adrian, Minn.; C. S. Nicks, Redland, Calif.; Mrs. Chas. Hinkle, Redland, Calif.; J. W. Nicks in U. S. Army overseas; Herbert Nicks, Redland, Calif.; Mrs. Roy Stuart, Colton, Calif.; Mrs. Ernest Harguss, Redland, Calif.; Mrs. Chas. Hunt, Kansas City, all of whom survive.

Mr. Nicks has not enjoyed robust health, and four weeks ago was taken ill and, as the result of the "flu," died, leaving a splendid testimony that he had made himself right with God.

Funeral services were conducted at West Liberty by the pastor of Springdale M. E. church, assisted by Rev. W. H. Mitchell of DeWitt. Interment was made in West Liberty cemetery.
