Mattie J. Fairall was born in Johnson county near West Branch, Iowa, on April 17, 1877. She was the third child of Charles H. and Mary J. Fairall. She departed this life on August 14, 1919.

She was graduated from the West Branch High school in 1894, and subsequently taught several terms in the rural schools. In 1896 she entered the State University, but was unable to complete her studies on account of her failing health.

She was modest and retiring in disposition and was happiest in her own home. She was united with the Presbyterian church in 1900 and was a faithful and conscientious member.

The surviving relatives are her mother and three sisters, Mrs. Clara Woods and Mrs. Florence Moore of West Branch and Mrs. Blanche Vore of Des Moines, three brothers, Delbert of West Branch, Charles of Chicago and Truman of Cedar Rapids.

The funeral service was in the home of her mother, Mrs. Fairall, on Saturday afternoon at two o'clock and was conducted by Rev. Mrs. Townsend. The burial was in West Branch cemetery.

Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Fairall of Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. Truman Fairall of Cedar Rapids and Mr. and Mrs. Marian Vore of Des Moines were in attendance from out of town.

A large number of nearby friends were present to extend sympathy to the bereaved family.
