5 December 1907 - West Branch Times

Joseph Cook, a former resident and pioneer of Cedar county, died at his residence in Oskaloosa on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 1, at the venerable age of 82 years, 3 months and 17 days.

He was married in 1863 to Elizabeth B. Hirst, who survives him, together with three children, two sons and one daughter, all of whom are grown to maturity.

He was a man of even temperament and strict integrity and won friends wherever he was known and leaves an example that might well be emulated by anyone. He was a loving husband, a kind father and a charitable neighbor--what more could be said of any man.

The funeral was held from his late home at Oskaloosa on Tuesday afternoon, attended by a large concourse of friends and neighbors. The sympathy of a large number of former friends will be extended the bereaved wife and children.
