DIED At his son's residence, in the 74th year of his age, Mr. Samuel Hoffman, of heart disease.

He was one of the early settlers of Cedar county. He came here nearly two years ago thinking to improve his health, but has been subject to sick spells ever since he came here. The evening before his death he appeared to be as well as usual, and retired about nine o'clock. Between twelve and one his son heard him moaning, and he rose to see what was the cause. When he got to his bedside he gasped once or twice, and was gone. He was honored and respected by all who knew him, and many friends in Cedar will mourn his departure. SHERIDAN, Cal. Jan. 17, 1880.
