Esther Bruff Baldwin, daughter of George C. and Meribh Morris Baldwin, was born July 14, 1844, at Damascus, Ohio, where the most of her early life was spent.

She was married to Frederick Berckhemer October 17, 1861, at East Palestine, Penn. Her husband died Feb. 1, 1920. She was the mother of five children, three of whom survive her, Mrs. J. G. Preston of Superior, Neb. Mrs. C. E. Hoover of Friendswood, Texas and Thos. F. Berckhemer of Galvaston, Texas, Curtis and Theodore dying in their early childhood.

She moved to Alliance, Ohio, in the spring of 1869; to Columbus, Ohio, in 1878 and to West Branch, Iowa, in 1880.

After a short residence in West Liberty, Iowa. She lived in Omaha, Neb., for 27 years. She then, with her husband, came to Texas, where they remained six years, and returned to Omaha, where husband died. Since that time (9 years) she has lived in Friendswood, passing away June 12th.

Thos. F. Berckheimer of Galveston, Texas, arrived Saturday morning with the body of his mother, Mrs. Fredrick Berckheimer, for burial. Mrs. Berckheimer's death occurred at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C. E. Hoover, at Friendswood, Texas. Funeral services were held in the Methodist church parlors at 10:30 o'clock Saturday morning, with burial in the Cemetery on the Hill.

Those who came to attend the funeral were Mr. Berckheimer, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Alexander and two daughters of Lone Tree, Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Kerr, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Brooke and Carl Barnes of West Liberty.
