25 October 1906 - West Branch Times

Eliza O. Scully, whose maiden name was Gaskill, was born in Stark county, Ohio, January 19th, 1835. On Jan. 26th, 1854, she was married to Wm. Augustus Pettit, whose death occurred in less than two years afterward. Of this union one child was born, her only daughter. Thus early in life was she bereaved and the cup of sorrow presented to her was very bitter, and as the years have come and gone many other waves of trouble have swept over her soul. Yet she has borne them all with grace and Christian fortitude. Her character was beautiful, unselfish, kind and noble. Her children call her memory blessed, and count her love a sacred inheritance.

She was married in 1861 to Wm. P. Forster. Four children were born of this union, two dying in infancy. She was again bereft of husband in 1867.

She was married August 26, 1869 to Thomas Scully and moved to Iowa in 1871 and settled on the farm at Honey Grove where she has since lived. Her husband preceded her nine years, leaving one son, Emmet Scully, with whom she resided until Sept. 26, when she departed this life.

Four children survive her: Augusta Morgaredge of Buffalo Gap, South Dakota; E. H. Forster of Minneapolis, Minn., W. P. Forster of Walla Walla, Washington; Emmet Scully of West Branch, Ia.
