18 October 1906 - West Branch Times

The community was inexpressibly shocked on Tuesday evening to learn of the sudden death of Mrs. Edwin Smith. She had been in poor health for some weeks but her friends were not aware of her serious condition. She leaves a husband and an infant son besides a sister and parents to mourn her loss. The funeral is held today at 2 o'clock from the residence of her parents.

1 November 1906 - West Branch Times

Youngest daughter of William and Sara Maris, was born Aug. 16th 1883, and died Oct. 16th, 1906.

She was married to N. Edwin Smith Sept. 10th, 1902.

In her girlhood she publicly professed conversion to Christ, and formally took the obligations of Friends church of which she was a birthright member. Her character was adorned by many christian graces. She excelled in executive ability, was forgiving in spirit, and gained many friends wherever her lot was cast. She bore a very painful illness with extreme patience, and frequently expressed her appreciation to loved ones ministering to her. Having never before been prostrated by illness, she had a new experience of sympathy for other suffering ones.

She leaves a precious babe one month old, a loving husband, one sister, and fond parents, who have now been bereft of all their children except one.

They have the sympathy of the entire community.
