20 September 1906 - West Branch Times

Neil Madson was born in Denmark, 9th month, 2d, 1841, and died at his home in West Branch, Ia., 8th month 27th, 1906.

Was married to Wilhemina Neilson 2nd month, 21st, 1866, came to Marshalltown, Ia., in 1871, where he remained in the occupation of his chosen calling, that of a tailor, until 1874, when with his wife and two children, he came to reside in West Branch. He endeared himself to a host of friends by his honest, upright life, both in business and social circles. He was for many years an esteemed member of the society of Friends.

Twelve years ago disease laid its withering hand upon him, impairing both body and mind, yet for the last four weeks of his life the clouds cleared away to a great degree from his mind, and which time was spent mostly in prayer and praise. When his heavenly Father, who had preserved him through trials, said "It is enough, come up higher," his purified spirit bade farewell to earth, with all its vicissitudes it had held for him, and went to rest upon his Savior's bosom.

He leaves a wife and four children, one son, A. A. Madson, who is now in New Mexico battling for his life with that dread disease, consumption, and three daughters.

The funeral was held at the Friends meeting house, and the remains laid away in the cemetery on the hill. His daughter, Miriam MacGregory, with her husband and his sister, came from Chicago to join the two daughters here and their mother in the last sad rites.

"He may not come to us, but we may go to him."
