Louisa Townsend Keeler was born in Knox county, Ohio, August 1, 1841 and passed to her rest at her home in Salem, Oregon, August 9, 1918, aged 77 years, 8 days. She is survived by her husband, Daniel D. Keller, a daughter, Hazel, and two brothers, Charles Townsend of Tacoma, Wash., and Oliver L. Townsend of Chino, California.

Louisa Townsend was the third child of her parents, William and Elizabeth Watson Townsend. At the age of 11 years she removed with her parents, by wagon, to Cedar county, Iowa, settling in the community afterward known as West Branch. Here amid the hardships of pioneer life she grew to womanhood, and in 1862 was united in marriage to Daniel D. Keeler. She and her husband later engaged for some years in the Indian Service in Indian Territory, afterward resided in Arkansas City, Kansas, and in 1892 came to Salem where they have since resided. Providence having denied her the happiness of seeing her own children grow to maturity she extended her mother-love to two foster daughters, Grace, who preceded her mother to the other land ten years ago, and Hazel, who survives her.

She has been loved and esteemed by a wide circle of friends and acquaintances. To all who were in need of a friend or home her doors were open in gracious hospitality, and many are those who remember the cheer and comfort offered there. As a faithful Christian and devoted worker in the church her life has ever been an inspiration and blessing to all who knew her.

The funeral was from the South Salem Friends church in charge of H. Elmer Pemberton, assisted by Chester Hadley, Josephine Hocket and Eliza Gidley. Those in attendance from out-of-town were Charles Townsend and Sophia Townsend of Tacoma, Wash.
