3 December 1903 - West Branch Times

Oliver J. Leech was born Oct. 1, 1869, and died Nov. 24, 1903, aged 34 years, 1 month and 23 days. He graduated from the West Branch high school in 1887 and afterward attended the pharmaceutical department of the state university. He was employed as druggist at several different places and was finally placed in charge of the Missouri Pacific hospital at Kansas City, which position he held for several years, but finally succumbed to overwork. This resulted in a protracted and lingering illness, which affected his mind, and he gave up his profession and returned to his father's home at West Branch, where he remained until May of this year, when it was thought best to take him to the hospital at Independence in the hope that his condition might be improved, but his decline was gradual and rapid. He was an affectionate disposition and made friends wherever he went, and with an unusually bright mind it was thought the world had much in store for him. The funeral was held from the residence of his father on the 27th. The services were conducted by Rev. Davis, pastor of the M.E. church, of which he was a member, having been converted at the age of 16. He was followed to his last resting place by a large concourse of sorrowing friends and relatives. The interment was held at West Branch cemetery.
