13 September 1928 - West Branch Times

Christiana Bertelsen was born in Vendsyssel, Denmark, Fifth Month, 27th, 1846. She came to America in 1890 to the home of her old-time friends, Lars Christian Hansen and wife. With them she found a congenial dwelling place during the remainder of her life. For years she had been frail in body, but the end came suddenly on the morning of Ninth Month 5th, 1928, as the result of a fall occurring the evening before.

From early childhood she was religiously inclined. After seeking amongst religious sects to find a profession that answered her experience, she heard of the doctrine of the Inner Light as professed by Friends. With this she could unite and in it she found peace. She enjoyed the reading of religious books, especially the Bible. One of her favorite texts being, "For the Grace of God, which bringeth salvation, hath appeared unto all men, touching us, that, denying worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously and godly in this present world."

She was an elder in the church. Her honorable and sound judgment together with her sweetness of disposition rendered her useful in many ways. As her years lengthened and infirmities increased, she often expressed her confidence in her Savior and her readiness for her heavenly rest. Her influence for good has been great in her home, where she will be much missed, and her kindly interest in all her acquaintances will linger as a loving remembrance of a dedicated life.
