Niels Ottesen was born May 7, 1874, in Tranum, Denmark. On April 24, 1905 at Norre Sundby, Denmark, he was united in marriage to Marie Jensen. To this union was born two children, Carl and Carla, Carl died in infancy. Mr. and Mrs. Ottesen came to America in 1910 and have lived in and around West Branch ever since. He was a member of the Danish Brotherhood and a faithful member of the Danish Lutheran church of West Branch.

Mr. Ottesen had suffered from Bright's disease for about a year. He died at 3:25 o'clock Tuesday morning at his home, three miles east of Iowa City on the lower West Branch road.

Left to mourn him, besides a host of friends, are his wife and a daughter, Carla, at home; three brothers, Christian Ottesen at Alden, Minn.; Martin, at Jewell, Iowa, and Peter of Chicago, and two sisters, Mrs. Marie Ottesen of Elko, Va., and Mrs. P. Paulsen, in Denmark.
