22 March 1928 - West Branch Times

J. K. McCollough, who for the last nine years has been a resident of this community, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Addie Christee, on Sunday evening, last, March 18, having arrived at the good age of 79 years, 4 months and 20 days.

Mr. McCollough was a native of Ohio, where he was born Nov. 28, 1848. Until manhood he lived in Ohio and was married there to Anna Needham. The family moved west to Iowa and four daughters were born to them, the oldest dying in infancy. Later, after the family moved back to Ohio, the mother died, leaving the father with the three girls. The daughters are Mrs. Addie Christee of West Branch; Mrs. Edna Leasure of Oklahoma; and Mrs. Bessie Edwards of Oxford. His daughters Addie and Bessie, and his son-in-law, F. H. Christee, were at his side when he passed peacefully away.

Mr. McCollough had not been in good health for some years, and a little time ago he became more feeble and was not able to leave his bed. Death came very peacefully and the life which had known its trials and sorrows abundantly came finally to rest.

Besides his daughters there survive 14 grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the undertaking parlors at West Branch Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock with burial in the West Branch cemetery. The Rev. H. D. Green of the Methodist church conducted the services.

Out of town relatives who came were Mr. and Mrs. Walter Immell and baby; Mr. and Mrs. Lew Edwards and family of Oxford; Mr. and Mrs. Mark Miller of Iowa City; Mr. and Mrs. John Heddleson of Coralville; Mrs. Ida Magnes, Meta, Millie, Ervil, Orlo, Harold Edwards of Oxford.
