25 October 1928 - The Tipton Advertiser

After suffering several months' ill health Forest Simmermaker passed away Sunday at Hershey hospital, at Muscatine, where he had recently submitted to surgical operation. The body was brought to Tipton Monday and funeral services conducted Wednesday afternoon.

Forest, son of George and Nancy Mathews Simmermaker, was born near Tipton, Iowa, Nov. 12, 1882, and departed this life at Hershey Hospital, Muscatine, Iowa, on Sunday Oct. 21, 1928 at the age of 45 years, 11 months and 9 days.

He attended the rural schools of the county and later continued his education in the Tipton High school and Highland Park College, Des Moines, Iowa. He was engaged in farming on the old home place south of Tipton for a number of years.

On Jan. 15, 1919, he was married to Ella Friday, and for several years they resided in Cedar Rapids returning to Tipton to assist in the care of his father who was called home Sept. 28, 1921. His mother passed away Aug. 14, 1911.

In 1922 Forest and his wife moved to California, where he was engaged in business until July of this year, when they returned to Iowa on account of his health.

Forest made friends readily and was ever loyal to these friends. Although he suffered intensely during his long illness, he was always hopeful and his cheerful manner lifted him above the level of the commonplace in the memory of his friends.

He is survived by his wife, three brothers Charles and William of Tipton and Fred of Orange, Calif., together with many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held from the residence of his brother Charles Simmermaker in Tipton this afternoon at 2 p.m., conducted by Rev. Theo Klaudt of the Reformed Church, with interment in Masonic cemetery. The pallbearers were Ernest Sheppard, H. E. Horn, James Cary, W. C. Neiman, Peter Wingert and W. I. Melson.
