Harriet R. Smith was born March 3rd, 1846, in Chatteris, Cambridgeshire, England, and died in Stuart May 5th, 1926, aged 80 years, 2 months and 2 days. Her parents were James and Mary Robinson, of whose eight children she was the last survivor.

She was married in London, England, May 7, 1870, to Elliott Smith. Four children were born to them, of whom one, a son, died when seven years old; the remaining three are Sydney of West Branch, Mrs. Minnie Maher of Atlantic and Mrs. Flora Linfor of Stuart.

Mr. and Mrs. Smith came from England directly to Stuart, locating on a farm north of town, where they remained until they moved into town in the spring of 1902. Mr. Smith passed away August 28th, 1918. Mrs. Smith had enjoyed fair health all her life and took part in caring for her son-in-law Wm. Linfor, during his recent illness and decease, and took to her bed only eight days before her death.

She was a member of the Church of England and died in that faith. She was a kind and loving mother and a good neighbor.

The funeral services, which occurred on her 56th wedding anniversary, were held at her home Friday, May 7th, at 2 p.m., being in charge of Rev. R. E. Harvey, with music furnished by Mesdames Seward and Pratt.

The pallbearers were Geo. Martin, Doice Raber, Chas. Morrison, Lon Mills, W. B. McIntyre and Geo. Cook. Interment took place in the South Oak Grove cemetery.
