Daniel Mott, son of Richard and Sara Hampton Mott, was born near Centerdale, Iowa, on what is known locally as the Joseph Worrall farm 8th month, 27th, 1861, and died at his home at Long Beach, Cal. 8th month 7th, 1914. The funeral and interment were at Pasadena, Cal.

In 1891 he married Martha Bye at West Branch, Iowa. To this union were born eight children, three of whom died in infancy. He left a devoted wife and five children, Everett, Irving, Alfred, Mabel, and Harold. His physical strength seemed gradually wasting away for near seven years, during which time all that medical skill could do seemed unavailing. During these years the patient, trustful, waiting spirit had manifested, as the physical powers weakened, was a source of comfort and strength to those who so fondly lovingly and self-sacrificing administered to his needs.
