Mrs. Lucy Ann Sanger was born at Salem, Ohio, July 16, 1836. She died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Annie Collins, in West Branch, Iowa, on Tuesday, November 11, 1924, aged 88 years, 3 months and 26 days.

Her last illness was of short duration. Several days ago she fell, breaking her hip. While this fracture did not cause her a great deal of pain, it sapped her strength, until she quietly passed to her eternal rest. All of her living children were with her at the last moment.

Her parents were James and Tacy Ward. She was the second daughter of the family. She received her education in the public schools of Salem, Ohio, in the days when the schoolhouse was built of rough logs. She came to Iowa when about twenty years of age. On September 19, 1859, she was united in marriage with John Sanger. The young couple settled on a farm near Springdale and there reared their family. Mrs. Sanger was the mother of nine children, four sons and five daughters, all of whom grew to manhood and womanhood. Her husband, who died in 1886, one son and two daughters preceded her in death. The children who remain are Annie Collins of West Branch, George Sanger of Kinsman, Ohio, William Sanger of Wet Liberty, Iowa, John Sanger of Alexandria, S.D., Mamie Snyders of Columbus Junction, Iowa and Bertha Mewhirter of Mitchell, S.D. There are twenty-two grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

She gave religion a large place in her life. By the time she was nine years of age she had read the entire Bible. When she was fourteen years of age she read the Bible through in one year, mostly by the light of the fireplace. She united wit the church at the age of twelve. She was regular in her attendance at church. She was a Methodist all her life, having first united with the Methodist Protestant church and later with the Methodist Episcopal. She rejoiced in the love of God and tried to brighten her home with the radiance of true Christian character.

She leaves to hold her life in precious memory her six children and their families, her brothers and hosts of friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at the home by Rev. William C. Perdew, at 1:30 Thursday afternoon, November 13th. The interment will be in the Springdale cemetery.
