1 November 1900 - West Branch Times

Abram W. Morris fell asleep in Jesus Sabbath afternoon, Sept. 16, 1900, at his home in Newburg, Ore., at the age of 70 years, 8 months and 24 days. The funeral services were conducted in the Friends church, Tuesday afternoon by the pastor, Rev. Levi Barr.

The deceased was born Dec. 21, 1829, near Damascus, Ohio. He was a birthright member of the Friends church, and always a consistent Christian since his conversion at the age of 35 years. He was married Jan. 11, 1860, near Muscatine, Iowa, to Mary Knowles. They spent 27 years of their married life near West Branch, Iowa, moving to Newburg Oregon 11 years ago. Their were eight children born to them, two dying in infancy and six survive him. He was a very kind and affectionate husband and father. Was an invalid five years, over two years and a half, confined to his bed. He was a great sufferer, through all of which he manifested a beautiful spirit of patience and Christian fortitude.

In the most extreme suffering he would say, "Praise the Lord." He took great enjoyment in having his friends and neighbors call to see him, which greatly revived his spirits; and he would almost always tell them he thought he was better. But after having those terrible suffering spells, he would long to go and be at rest.

He was ready and wiling to depart and be with Christ, which he felt would be far better.

But we know that our loss is his eternal gain, that he is safely housed in that Heavenly home, where there is no more pain and death, but all is joy and peace.
