20 June 1901 - West Branch Times

On last Thursday, June 13, occurred the death of E. A. Comstock, a business man of Cedar Rapids and son of Mrs. Asa Staples of this place. Mr. Comstock had been in his usual health with the exception of a slight pain in his head of which he complained on retiring Wednesday evening, but thought a good night's rest might relieve him of his pain. As he did not rise at his usual time the next morning, his relatives, with whom he had been taking his meals during his wife's absence, went to his room at a late hour when it was found that he was lifeless, having passed quietly away, it is supposed from heart failure, though his hands were still warm. Mrs. Comstock had been visiting with friends in West Branch since the Monday previous and was expected to return home on that day. She was notified and returned at once. The body was embalmed and brought here and the funeral was held on Saturday. Thus was committed to earth all that remained of a successful business man and devoted husband
