Funeral services were conducted last Friday afternoon for Mrs. A. H. Shaffer, who passed away Tuesday, July 26. The services were conducted by Rev. Fred Ross Shirck, from the home of her daughter, Mrs. Joe Patterson. Interment was in Masonic cemetery, where the body was laid to rest beside the husband.

Mrs. Shaffer was born in Pomeroy, Meigs county, Ohio, Jan. 24, 1851. Her maiden name was Minnie Werling. At an early age her parents brought her to Cedar county, and she had resided in this community practically all of her life. She has always been an exemplary citizen and was highly respected by all who knew her.

She was united in marriage with Albert H. Shaffer, and to this union thirteen children were born, ten of whom survive to mourn the departure of a devoted mother.

Mr. Shaffer departed this life March 11, 1913, two daughters and a son also having preceded her in death.

The surviving children are: Walter, William, Mrs. Guy Larue and Mrs. Joe Patterson, of Tipton; Mrs. Will Siepman, Algona; Mrs. Hulda Christian, Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Cora Phillips, Humboldt; Mrs. Vera Swift, of Kansas City, Mo.; and Chas. of Davenport. Twenty-two grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive, who will greatly miss their loving grandmother.
