5 September 1889 - The Tipton Advertiser

SWINEFORD--At the residence of her sons, in Chicago, Aug. 2th, 1889, Mrs. Mary A. Swineford, aged 59 years, 3 months and one day.

Deceased was a native of Pennsylvania and was a resident of Tipton from 1858 to 1870. Her husband was in those years a prominent and well-known attorney, and the family consisted of a number of young men and boys, who were popular in our schools and social circles. After her husband's death and burial here, Mrs. S. returned to Pennsylvania and lived there until three years ago, when she came to her sons Robert and John, in Chicago, for whom she kept house until her final illness. At her death as above indicated, her remains were brought to Tipton to be laid beside those of her husband in Masonic Cemetery. The sons above named, and her son William and a nephew from St. Louis, were in attendance.

Upon arrival, last Saturday, appropriate service was held in the Reformed church, of which Mrs. Swineford was a member while in Tipton. A goodly number were present at the service, some of whom were formerly neighbors and acquaintances of the deceased, and others companions of the bereaved sons when the latter were growing youths in Tipton. The bodies of husband and wife now sleep side by side in mother earth and their spirits, we trust, are re-united in a fairer world.
