12 July 1989 - The Tipton Conservative

Funeral services for Arnold W. Swan, 83, Tipton, were held July 5, 1898 at the First United Church of Christ in Tipton, with the Rev. Donald Gardella officiating. Joyce Eilers was the organist and pallbearers were Gale Maurer, Ken Jedlicka, Merle Gronewold, Doug Emrich, Vernon Weaver and Jerry Hartog. Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery.

Mr. Swan died July 2 at St. Luke's hospital in Cedar Rapids following an extended illness.

The son of Frank and Hulda Bjork Swan, he was born May 15, 1906 in Oakville. He attended the rural Oakville schools and graduated from Oakville high in 1925. He married Eleanor Pfaff April 9, 1938 in Macon, Mo.

Mr. Swan was a retired farmer and had resided in the Tipton area for the past 50 years. He was a member of the Cedar County Farm Bureau and the First United Church of Christ in Tipton.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Humberto (Jeanne) Santa Cruz, Dallas, Texas; a son, David, Tipton; 3 grandchildren; a step-grandchild and 4 sisters, Mabel Lewis, Wapello; Myrtle Dietrick, Burlington; Lela Pulver, Mt. Pleasant and Evelyn Murray, Oakville. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers and a sister.
