12 July 1894 - West Branch Times

HAWLEY - Benjamin Hawley a member of West Branch Monthly meeting of friends (conservative) died, after a lingering illness at his home in West Branch 6th mo. 20th 1894. He being a life long member of Friends society, and was much attached to Friends doctrine was of a retiring unassuming spirit, adhering conscientiously to what he believed to be right. He had been impressed for sometime before he was taken down that his time was short, and that he should set his affairs in order which he faithfully attended to. When disease came, he was a patient sufferer, without a murmur, expressing many times he saw nothing in his way and was entirely resigned to the Lord's will. Upon his wife saying to him "how can I live without thee" he calmly remarked "thee will be cared for, we have been blest to live together over fifty two years, and should not murmur." He was a kind and affectionate husband and tender father, left a wife and seven children to mourn their loss, all of which were married and have families, except one, and all were permitted to be in attendance during his last hour.

Yes we mourn; but not as those without hope, having the assurance that our loss is his eternal gain.
