11 December 1941 - The Tipton Advertiser

Richard Charles Schiele, 38, died Monday at 7:45 a.m. in Mercy hospital, having suffered injuries Sunday when he fell from his horse as he was rounding up cattle on his farm four miles northwest of Durant. Acting Coroner W. E. Hoepner said he was investigating the accident, but no decision was yet reached whether an inquest would be held. Schiele, it was reported, left home at noon to round up a heard of cattle. When he failed to return in the late afternoon, a search was begun and led to the discovery of the farmer lying unconscious on the ground on a neighbor farm. He was rushed to the hospital.

Born Nov. 21, 1903, in Cedar county, the son of Gustave and Bertha Schiele, he received his early education in local schools. He was graduated from Wilton high school and later attended Brown's Business College in Davenport. June 23, 1928, he was married in Middletown, Ia., to Alice Moeller, who survives. He was a widely known breeder of horses and cattle.

Other survivors are two daughters, Phyllis Anne and Avon Nancy, both at home; his mother, Mrs. Bertha Schiele, Durant, and two brothers, Otto W., Stockton, Ia., and John, Sigourney, Ia.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. today (Thursday) in the Runge Chapel, Davenport. Place of burial in the Durant cemetery.
