22 April 1943 - The Tipton Advertiser

Howard Hobart Schneider, son of Henry L. and Emmaline Reed Schneider was born May 14, 1882 at Tipton, Iowa, and died April 15, 1943 at his home near West Branch, Iowa. He attended rural school No. 16 southwest of Tipton, and Tipton High School.

For several years in young manhood he farmed near Tulare, South Dakota.

On April 27, 1908, he married Carrie Leah Cripliver and moved onto the Cripliver farm west of Tipton in the West Bethel neighborhood. To this union was born one daughter, Virginia, whose husband Capt. C. J. Nemmers is serving the United States Army in the North Atlantic. Besides his wife and daughter, there remains one brother, Martin H. Schneider of Ylm, Wash., and four sisters, Mrs. Jennie Taylor, Tipton; Mrs. Carrie Chase, Ames; Mrs. George Burrough, Tipton; and Mrs. Ray Potter, Tipton. There are 17 nieces and nephews to remember Uncle Howard.

In 1919 Howard and his wife bought the Marion Gray farm near Springdale at which place he lived until his death. He was an Iowa farmer in every sense of the word. His family and neighbors, his livestock and crops, the soil, the weather, and the sturdy oak trees of his timberland, the seasons, the conditions of the roads, and fields were his concern and interest.

At one time he was connected with the Odd Fellows Lodge. At the time of his death he was township trustee and a member of the County Farm Bureau Board. He belonged to the Springdale Methodist church.

Since the second World War spread over the land, his plans and interests were concerned with every effort to win it.
