23 January 1913 - West Branch Times

The many friends of Mrs. Lorette, formerly Miss Lulu Jewell, were shocked to hear of her tragic death, the result of burns sustained when their home near Braymer, Mo., was recently destroyed by fire. The house caught fire about four o'clock in the morning and while removing the furniture the ceiling fell in, covering the unfortunate woman with burning embers. Although her husband succeeded in getting her out of the doomed building her injuries were such that recovery was impossible and death came in a few hours to relieve her terrible sufferings. Mr. Lorette was also severly burned. Mrs. Lorette was born and reared to womanhood in this vicinity and received her education in the Springdale school. Her brother, George Jewell, of this place, attended the funeral which was held at the home of her father, Hiram Jewell, at Peru, Neb. Mrs. Lorette was favorably known here and leaves a host of friends to mourn her demise.
