2 November 1893 - West Branch Times

John Christian Lehman was born in Zofingen Switzerland on June 7th 1818 and died at his home two Miles south of West Branch on Oct. 28, 1893.

Mr. Lehman came to America with his parents in 1834 while he was only a boy, and settled with them in New Jersey where he resided for many years. He moved to Iowa in 18?? and has been a continuous resident of this community for ?3 years. He was a man of strong mind well versed in current literature and was a careful student of men and books. He spoke several languages and found great pleasure in ever trying to develop the mind. Quiet, unostentatious a hard worker simple in his habits and frugal in his life. He was highly respected by all who knew him. While the husband and father is gone the wife and daughter are left to mourn his loss, and to cherish for a brief period the memory of his love.

The funeral services were held at the house on the 31st, conducted by Rev. Geo Furniss who preached from Psalm 91, 10 to a large gathering of friends. After which the remains were taken and sepulchred in the cemetery at Downey.

May God bless and support with his grace the bereft family.
