Jane Thomas was born in Bristol, England, August 4, 1824. She was united in marriage with John Lloyd, who was also of Bristol, in 1845. To this union were born six sons, John, Penton, Alfred, Arthur, Sidney and James. In 1863 the husband and father departed this life. In 1870, the mother with her three sons, Arthur, Sidney and James, came to Springdale, Iowa, where Penton and Alfred had previously come. Later she came to West Branch, where she remained until 1911, when she with Sidney went to live with James. After Sidney's death she seemed to feel that her work was done and awaited her Master's call.

She passed away April 10, 1913, aged 88 years, 8 months and 5 days. She was a member and regular attendant when able of the Friends Meeting. Three sons remain to mourn her loss, Penton of Redondo Beach, California; Arthur of Albion, Iowa; and James of West Branch, Iowa; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The funeral took place Saturday afternoon, April 12, at 2:30 o'clock from the home, after the manner of Friends, and was attended by Rev. W. H. Mitchell of the M.E. church, wo spoke acceptably in the ministry. The interment was in the West Branch cemetery.
