2 October 1913 - West Branch Times

Wrigley Smith, son of James and Sarah Smith, was born at Oasis, Iowa, May 29, 1861, and departed this life, Wednesday morning, Sept. 24, 1913.

Practically the whole of his earthly career was passed on the farm on which he resided at the time of his decease.

On March 14, 1896, he united in marriage with Miss Effie Catharine Blackford of Hillsboro, Iowa. To this union three children were born, Rex Carleton, Ralph Blackford and Helen Marjory, all of whom survive.

The cause of Mr. Smith' departure is too well known to need repeating. Terribly injured he fought bravely for life, and patiently endured the suffering which preceded his release. Every endeavor was put forth to relieve the sufferer, and to restore him to health, but the injury was too severe for recovery.

Mr. Smith had long been a faithful and efficient member of the Methodist Episcopal church, and had long loved and trusted his Savior, and departed this life firm in the faith he long had cherished.

To mourn his departure are his wife and three children, one brother, William, of Medford, Okla., three sisters, Mrs. Hannah Hope and Mrs. Emma Hope of Atlantic, Iowa, Mrs. Eliza Cozine of Audubon, Iowa, other relatives and a host of friends.

The funeral took place from the home Friday afternoon, Sept. 24, at 1:30 o'clock, Rev. W. H. Mitchell officiating. The interment was in the West Branch cemetery.

Among those from a distance who attended the funeral were: His brother, Wm., of Medford, Okla.; his sisters, Mrs. Hannah and Mrs. Emma Hope of Atlantic, and Mrs. Eliza Cozine of Audubon; David and Wm. Hope of Atlantic, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Guthrie of Bentonport, John Early of Iowa City, John Cozine of Audubon, Mrs. John Seville of Walnut, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Logan of Mt. Pleasant, W. S. and A. V. Blackford of Hillsboro, Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Blackford, W. P. Blackford and Paul Early of Oskaloosa, Mrs. B. R. Boley of Stockport, C. W. Yetter and wife of Cedar Rapids, Carver W. Thompson and wife of Iowa City, and others.
