31 May 1923 - West Branch Times

Mrs. John Schenck, of Downey, Ia., died yesterday afternoon of cerebral congestion or apoplexy in the office of Dr. Frank Love, where she had gone for the treatment of a minor nasal infection. Her husband had accompanied her to the office and was present when she died.

An autopsy was held immediately following the death, in the Donohue mortuary. Dr. Frederick W. Mulsow, associate professor and acting head of pathology and bacteriology department of the S.U.I. medical school stated that her death was due to a cerebral congestion which is nearly identical in nature to apoplexy.

Mrs. Schenck was seemingly in good health when she came into Dr. Love's office. She walked to the chair which is commonly used in the office of physicians. When asked if she was suffering any pain she answered in the negative.

Thirty seconds later, according to Dr. Love, she was dead. She suddenly started, he said, her body became rigid and she fell back lifeless. The body was taken to Downey today.

The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Burial will be in the West Liberty cemetery.--Iowa City Press Citizen, Saturday, May 26th
