8 May 1924 - West Branch Times

The funeral of Mrs. H. C. Eaton, who died in Marionville, Mo., Friday, April 25, was held at her home, 207 North Grant avenue, on Monday at 10:30, conducted by dr. W. A. Keve. Mrs. Eaton had been in frail health for over a year, and two weeks ago she was taken to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jesse W. Barker, in Marionville, Mo., in hopes that she would be benefitted by the change of climate.

Sarah Eleanor Mattison was born near West Branch, Iowa, Nov. 5, 1854. When she was 18 she was married to Henry Clinton Eaton and the next December they came to Kansas and took up a claim west of Chanute in Wilson county. In 1881 they moved to Chanute, to 207 North Grant, where they have resided ever since. Mrs. Eaton was raised a Quaker, but united with the Methodist church in early girlhood. She was a woman of rare personal charm and her life was an embodiment of the Spirit of Universal Motherhood. While devoted to her home and family she always gave generously of friendship to all who knew her. She was a great lover of flowers and cultivated them all her life. She loved them best to share with others and there is hardly a friend or acquaintance who has not flowers and plants given by her.

She leaves the husband, H. C. Eaton, one son Roy Eaton of Chillicothe, Mo., two daughters, Mrs. J. V. Barker of Marionville, Mo., and Miss Ethel Eaton of the home address; also four grandchildren, Leroy Barker of St. Louis, Mo., Ralph, Eileen and Vivian Barker of Marionville; also two brothers, Jas. Mattison of Madison, Neb., and Byron Mattison of Rockwell City, Iowa. To these and the hosts of friends her memory is a benediction. "She is not dead, but sleepeth."--Chanute (Kans.) Daily Tribune.
