Military services were held Sept. 14 at Fort Myer Chapel, Arlington, Va., for Milo Deming, 70, a former resident of this community.

Mr. Deming died in an Arlington Hospital while surgery was being performed to install a pace maker for a heart condition.

Milo Henry Deming was born on a farm near Olin on Nov. 18, 1894, the son of Charles C. and Jessie Elijah Deming. He moved to Esmond, S. Dak., as a small boy. His father was killed in a hunting accident in 1901 and he moved to Clarence to live with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Elijah.

Mr. Deming received his education in the Clarence school and taught school in the country for several years. He attended the Iowa State University to study Forestry and after serving in the Army in World War I, the rest of his life he devoted to forestry and conservation.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret, a daughter, Sara Grimes, Lexington, Calif., and two grandchildren; and sisters, Mrs. Roy (Margaret) Sallady, Felton, Calif.; and Mrs. Samuel (Grace) Hootman, Des Moines.

Mr. Deming was a cousin of Lester and Harold Nicoll, both of Mechanicsville.

Burial was in the Arlington National Cemetery.
