Funeral services for Mrs. George Thumma, 70, were held Oct. 31 at the Sheets and Son funeral home in Tipton with Kenneth Carroll, pastor of the Tipton Bible church, officiating. Burial was in the Clarence cemetery.

Pallbearers were 6 sons, Merle, Glenn, Melvin, Harold, Dale and Robert. Janet Smith and Patsy Thompson were vocalists, accompanied by Mrs. Merle Carrol. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Klein and Mr. and Mrs. Art Domer were in charge of flowers.

Mrs. Thumma died at her home in Tipton Oct. 28, following a lengthy illness.

Luella Alice, daughter of William and Margaret Throne Burkolder, was born Nov. 4, 1893 in Carlisle, Penn. and was educated in the rural Carlisle schools. She was married to George Thumma in Mt. Holly Springs, Penn., Nov. 28, 1912.

She was a resident of Cedar county for 51 years, living in Stanwood and Tipton. The Thummas celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary in 1962.

She is survived by her husband, 2 daughters, Jean, at home; Mrs. Richard (Helen) Smith, Tipton; 6 sons, Merle, Valparaiso, Ind.; Glenn, Stanwood; Harold, Phoenix, Ariz.; Melvin, Dale and Robert, Tipton; 2 sisters, Mrs. J. L. (Ethel) Thumma, West Branch; and Mrs. Norman (Florence) Anderson, Carlisle, Penn.; a brother, Ira Burkholder, Carlisle, Penn.; 28 grandchildren, including 8 step-grandchildren and 8 adopted grandchildren.
