21 December 1893 - West Branch Times

DIED. JENKINS:--Died at the home of his niece, Mrs. C. Wright, in Omaha, Neb., Dec. 11, 1893, William Jenkins, age 80 years and two months.

Mr. Jenkins was born in England in 1818, remaining there until middle life when he came to this country; settling first in Missouri. His stay in that state which included the stormy days of the rebellion, was protracted until 1875 when he came to Iowa, and settled in the village of Springdale, where he has made his home ever since until three years ago when the death of his wife left him alone. Since that time he has been a welcome inmate in the homes of two nieces till he ceased to need their loving care. His remains were brought to Springdale for burial Dec. 14, where he was followed to the grave by old friends and neighbors who respected his memory remembering him as a good citizen, a courteous and kindly disposed gentleman. May the rest he has entered into prove all he expected when he welcomed the change, approaching the grave like one who wraps the drapery of his couch about him and lies down to pleasant dreams.
