Mrs. Hannah James, aged 95 years, 6 months and 6 days, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mattie J. Apple, of Springdale, Saturday, Nov. 16, 1912, of infirmities incident to old age.

She was born near Salem, Columbiana county, Ohio, May 10, 1817, of Quaker parentage, her maiden name being McBride. In 1841 she was married to Thomas James of the same locality, and with him came to Iowa in 1851. They made their home at Springdale, and have resided there continuously till her death. There were eight children born to the parents, only three of whom survive of the family. Atty. Homer James of Marion, Ia., and Walter James of Pasadena, Cal., are the sons, and Mrs. Mattie J. Apple of Springdale, with whom she made her home, is the daughter.

Hannah James was a birthright member, and about forty years an elder, in the Friends church, and she endeavored to be loyal to its precepts throughout her lengthy and eventful career.

The funeral took place Monday afternoon, Nov. 18, 1912, at the Friends church at Springdale, Rev. E. L. Gregory, her pastor, officiating. The interment was in the family plot in the Friends cemetery at Springdale.
