9 February 1922 - West Branch Times

Anna Catherine Heck was born near Frankfort, Germany, May 3, 1829. When 24 years of age she, with a number of others, came to this country as immigrants. About a year later she was united in marriage to Adam Kniese and the new home was established near Philadelphia, Penn. To this union four children were born, three sons and a daughter. One son died in infancy. Soon after the Civil war Mr. and Mrs. Kniese came West and settled on the old homestead place near West Branch. They knew the hardships of pioneers. In 1902 death took the father from the home, and eight years later Mrs. Kniese and her daughter moved to their present home in West Branch. In June, 1919, the brother George passed away.

After three years of failing health, Mrs. Kniese passed peacefully away last Friday morning, Feb. 3rd, just as a new day was breaking, and her soul went to the land where the day never closes. She leaves a daughter, Anna, who has been the constant companion and comfort of her mother; a son, Henry A. of Iowa City; two grandchildren, Ray Kniese and Tacie McGrew; a number of nephews and nieces, and the friendships accumulated in nearly a century.

When the new home was first established Mr. and Mrs. Kniese united with the German Reformed Church in Philadelphia. All who have known Sister Kniese found her cheerful and trustful to the last. She had finished her course and she had "kept the faith." One of the joys of her life was her plants and flowers and her life will be surrounded with beauty that never fades.

The funeral service was held in the home Sunday afternoon at 1:30. Words of comfort were spoken by Rev. W. G. Rowley of the Methodist church. Interment was in the local cemetery by the side of her husband.
