Dorus Calkins, son of Abner and Annis Calkins, was born Aug. 9, 1840, in Peru, Clinton county, N.Y., and died Aug. 3, 1913. He was married to Olive C. Allen, June 13, 1861, at Crystal Lake, Ill. To this union was born five children, three of whom, beside the widowed mother, survive him, Edwin E. of Los Angeles, Cal., Frederick D. of Waterloo, Ia., and Mrs. Lalie Anderson of Allen, Neb. He is also survived by one brother, Orville W. Calkins of Plainfield, Iowa. The deceased was united to the Methodist Episcopal church at Allen, Neb., in 1908.

A funeral service was held at the home in West Branch at 2:30 Monday afternoon, Rev. W. H. Mitchell officiating, and the body was taken Monday night to Wall Lake, Ia., where the funeral and interment took place on Wednesday morning. Of the relatives from a distance, Frederick D. Calkins of Waterloo, Ia., and Mesdames Lalie Anderson and Matie Warden of Allen, Nebr., attended the funeral services here.

D. Calkins came to West Branch about two years ago and has been a familiar face on our streets as he moved about in his quiet way and will be much missed. He and his wife resided with their brother-in-law, G. G. Wright and wife.
