24 July 1913 - West Branch Times

Mrs. Amanda Grubb Colip was born April 11, 1845, at Strawtown, Hamilton county, Ind. She was united in marriage with Alexander Colip on April 11, 1866. To this union were born two children, E. E. Colip of Cedar Rapids and Mrs. Addie Clark of this place at whose home she died July 18, 1913. Both the son and daughter were with her to the end. She also leaves one own sister, Mrs. Emma Erwin, of Garden City, Kans., who was unable to be present on account of the poor health of her daughter, and a half-brother and a half-sister who reside near the old home in Indiana. After her marriage in 1866 she resided at Arcadia, Ind., until 1873, when they moved to Wapello, Iowa. In 1875 they moved to West Branch, where she resided till the close of life. Her husband had preceded her 31 years to the better land. She was a life long member of the Methodist church. The funeral took place Sunday, July 20th, from the home in West Branch.

Besides a large number of old-time friends and neighbors there were from a distance: E. E. Colip and wife and six children from Cedar Rapids, also from that city J. H. and Mrs. Hensley; from Indiana, John Grubb and Mrs. Lou Gwinn; Mrs. D. C. Thomas, Wapello, and Will Colip of Chicago. Rev. W. H. Mitchell, assisted by Rev. Montgomery, conducted the service and there were many beautiful floral pieces given as tokens of love and esteem.
