3 December 1931 - West Branch Times

Henry Milton Mize, son of Milton Green and Margaret Mize, was born at Ainsworth, Iowa, March 4, 1858, and died at his home at West Branch at six o'clock on the evening of Thursday, Nov. 26, 1931, having passed his 73rd birthday. His only brother, Perry Mize, died June 29, 1893. For the past two years Mr. Mize has not been well, and especially is this true regarding the last six months, as day by day his strength slowly failed until at last, Thursday evening, he quietly let go the tie which bound him to earth.

Henry M. Mize was married to Miss Laura J. Hull, July 4, 1882, and their home was established in his native town of Ainsworth, where he was established in the implement and hardware business. In 1900 the family moved to West Branch where he became owner of a hardware business and the telephone exchange. During the past few years, since his health failed, he was not engaged in business. He was a patient sufferer during a very severe illness, and the loved ones who cared for him during the past weeks bear witness to his unfailing courage and thought for others. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for more than forty years, and the fraternity had charge of funeral services at the grave, assisting the pastor, who was in charge at the home.

Mrs. Mize died in 1926, and one daughter, Winifred Kirby, passed away June 7, 1923. Mr. Mize is survived by two sons, Harry Mize of Ames, Iowa; Clell P. Mize of Minneapolis, Minn.; and three daughters, Mrs. Jessie B. Macomber of Venice, Calif.; Mrs. Francis L. Randall and Mrs. Jean M. Gray of West Branch, all of whom, except Mrs. Macomber, being with him during the last days of his life.

Funeral services were held at the family home at 2:00 o'clock Sunday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. Harry D. Green, pastor of the Methodist church. Music was furnished by Mrs. R. W. Millen, who also sang at the services in memory of the wife and mother and the sister who has gone. At the cemetery the impressive Masonic ceremonies were conducted, with A. M. McCormick of Tipton in charge.
