The death of John Michener, 51, occurred at his home seven miles north of Independence, Monday afternoon, after a long illness during which he suffered more than one stroke of paralysis. He had recently been much better and was able to ride out some, but his relapse was followed by his death. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon.

John Michener was a West Branch boy, the son of Wm. G. and Lydia Michener, who grew to manhood here, later becoming a railroad employee, and the past few years he has spent on a small farm. He is survived by his widow; also three brothers, Frank K. Michener of Cedar Rapids, Charles of Oelwein and Alvin of Webster City; and two sisters, Mrs. Laura Hollingsworth of Colton, Calif., and Mrs. Nellie Meadows of Estherville. One brother, William, and two sisters, Mrs. Rena Michener and Mrs. Mattie Ross, preceded him in death.
