19 March 1891 - West Branch Times

Anne Stackhouse Jackson, March 15th, 1891, at the home of her son, W. Jackson, in Gower township, aged 93 years, 3 months and 1 day.

The deceased was born in Bucks Co., Pa., Dec. 14th, 1707, and married Jesse Jackson on June 7th, 1835. They moved to Indiana and entered a farm in 1837, coming from there to Iowa in 1854. Her husband died of heart disease on Dec. 3rd, 1878, in Iowa City, where he had gone to mill.

Only two children blessed this union, the younger, Benjamin, died at the age of ten years, and Washington has faithfully cared for his aged mother, denying himself the associations of the world during her declining years.

She was two years old the day Pres. Washington died, therefore has lived under the reign of all the presidents except the first. At the time of her death she was the oldest person in Gower township.

Having a birth right in the Friends church, she remained true to the church of her adoption, though heartily sanctioning all Christian labor regardless of denominational lines. She died as she had lived, rejoicing in the faith of salvation through the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, and as old age dimmed the eye and the ear failed to perform its duty and the mind wandered, yet she remembered her Creator and waited the summons to come up higher which came just as the old clock struck twelve. She was buried by Friends ceremony beside her husband at Honey Grove.
