1 May 1930 - West Branch Times

Robert D. Stepp was the son of Benjamin and Mary Stepp and entered into life Dec. 30, 1857, in Butler county, Penn. At the time of his death, which occurred on Monday, April 28, 1930, he was nearly 72 years and four months old.

There were five children in the family, and all but one, Michael of East Canton, Ohio, have now passed on to eternity.

In 1878, Robert, then a young man of 21, left the old home in the east and like so many others of that day started to the call of the west to make his life and his fortune on these western prairies. He came directly to West Branch, and stayed for a time at the hospitable home of William Brown. Later he married Mary Amanda Rummells, which wedding took place at Iowa City, Feb. 23, 1887. Two children were born, Mae E. Hobbs and Josiah W., both of whom are living southwest of town.

Mr. Stepp was a farmer and the old farm was located 2 miles south of town. About eleven years ago Mr. and Mrs. Stepp left the farm and came to live in town. The neighbors missed a good friend, and one who was respected by those who knew him. During the later period of his life he has been in poor health and life failed him as the result of the last severe illness.

Beside the wife and two children there are three grandchildren, Dorothy Shirley and Robert Stepp, Harriet having died in infancy.

Funeral services were held in the home in the east part of town on Wednesday afternoon at 2:30. Burial was made in the local cemetery. The Rev. H. D. Green of the Methodist church was in charge of the services.
