17 April 1930 - West Branch Times

Daniel L. Barnhart was born July 24, 1860, in Northumberland, Penn.

After an illness, which became critical only a few days before the end, he died at noon April 8, 1930, at the age of 69 years, 8 months and 14 days at his home on Calhoun St., West Liberty. His early years of childhood were spent in Pennsylvania, but he came to Iowa at the age of 19 years.

March 1, 1884, he was married to Della Ellyson. They began married life farming in western Iowa at Audubon and Archin. For twenty-two years the home was on a farm near West Branch, but eight years ago moved to West Liberty. A daughter, Mrs. Joe Kennedy preceded him in death in 1935. He is survived by his wife, one son Curtis of West Branch, and daughter Sadie at home, two brothers Asa of Fort Collins, Colo., and Curt of Pennsylvania.

Words seem inadequate in expressing the loss of this unselfish and industrious citizen, whose character was above reproach, always interested in the betterment of the community and home, generous and ever ready to extend a glad and helpful hand to those with whom he came in contact, responding to the call of need. For many years he has taken an active interest in the Odd Fellow Lodge.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church at West Liberty Thursday afternoon, April 10.
