7 October 1897 - The Tipton Advertiser

On Monday last Fred Marolf, of Rochester township, was killed by the explosion of a boiler at Moscow, and this is the first loss sustained by the M. B.A.

Mr. Marolf made application for membership in the M.B.A. on May 4, 1897, and on May 10, his application was approved by Head Physician Wyant for $1,000, the amount applied for and all his age would entitle him to. His certificate is made payable to himself, which necessitates the appointment of an administrator for his estate, before proofs of loss can be completed or the claim paid. The supreme officers of the M.B.A. are taking steps to have an administrator appointed without delay, as they are very anxious to pass upon and pay the claim at the earliest possible moment.

Mr. Marolf was fifty-two years old and leaves a wife and ten children. He was industrious but poor in this world's goods and leaves little or nothing except this insurance money which will be a great boon to his large family. The total amount paid by him for his insurance does not exceed $8.50 and in return for this small investment his family will receive $1,000. Who can make a better investment with $8.50 than was made by Mr. Marolf?
